AT THE BOTTOM of this

my son, Chuck, and his

Going to the SUN HIGHWAY is an adventure.

On the west side there is a great hike

to Avalanche Lake

(on the Going to the Sun Road or just before it)

where you can see several waterfalls that feed the lake

The ROAD is very  SCENIC
About halfway through you get to LOGAN'S PASS.
Take the hike that leads to

Going To The Sun Highway is a must.
Below is a picture of a place we stopped
to have a picnic lunch.

The HIKE may have snow and SHEEP

A nice hike at the Logan Pass visitor center to a lake (maybe Hidden or Horseshoe Lake)

We saw mountain goats there, up close and personal

 Many Glacier Hotel (click)

is on a lake in the park.
It is well worth a visit or stay, if possible.
It is very rustic but the view
from the porch is worth
at least an hour of meditation.

You  may enjoy the HUCKLEBERRY Yogurt that we
had at the LODGE

We found the dining room at the LODGE
to just be OKAY...
Been a few years though

You can walk around Swift Current Lake

(about 2 miles)
and the views are breath taking.

View from across Swift Current Lake.
(The lodge is across the lake.)

This is the lake GRINNEL LAKE
at the end of the hike that the rangers offer.
The boats leave from Many Glacier Inn.

We stayed for awhile after
the hike and were the only ones at the lake.

The boats run regularly to get

Make sure they're aware of the shuttle and
the timed entry for the Going to the Sun road.

Second, for days when they're not staying a Many Glacier,
be aware of the shuttle schedule:

Best (reasonable) hike: Avalanche Lake / Trail of the Cedars: Easier hike with gorgeous views

Something else to consider:
Raft Float near West Glacier: Anything on the Flathead River

Fun restaurants: There are a LOT in Whitefish:
I really liked Montana Coffee Traders for breakfast.
